GARBAGE COLLECTION
Tuesdays - From 7:00 A.M.
Please note that there will be no collection on the following legal holidays: January 1st, 2010.
Household refuse is collected as of 7:00 A.M. We therefore ask you to take out your garbage bags before 7:00 A.M, every Tuesday.
To ease the process you may take out your refuse after 8:00 P.M. on the evening just prior to the collection in a well-closed garbage container.
This measure is required since collection done earlier in the day enables the Town to negotiate a better price for the collection and transportation of household refuse.
The contractor picks up all refuse placed in resistant bags (untorn), closed boxes, garbage bins or plastic/metal garbage cans for a maximum of six (6) containers, in whatever combination and weighing no more than 100 lbs. (45 kg).
Collection of oversized refuse
Please be advised that in accordance with Town By-law 705, the Town of Hampstead offers its residents a special pickup service for bulky items (such as fridges, furniture, mattresses, electronic equipment, household appliances, etc.) subject to a fee.
The pickup fee is determined on the spot by a Public Works representative on a per case basis, depending on the weight, size and nature of the item. Please note that given the complex nature of this kind of pickup and the cost incurred by the Town for performing it, the Town must charge a minimum fee of $160 for any given pickup.
The Town provides free estimates of the cost of your pickup. Once the estimate is made, you will have the option of using the Town’s service or not. We ask you not to leave your discarded items at the curbside because doing so would result in a violation notice from the Town.
At all times, you may also call a local refuse collection company or drop your bulky items at your closest Eco-Centre located at 6925 Côte-des-Neiges, between Bedford & Jean-Talon. Proof of residence is required (driving permit, tax account, Access Montreal card, public utility invoice along with an ID card). Be advised that the Centre is closed on Mondays but open on Saturdays. For its opening hours, please call 514-872-3517.
Moreover, Hydro-Québec picks up old refrigerators for free and will pay you $60 by mail as part of its Recyc-Frigo Program. Old refrigerators are disposed of following legal and environmentally sound procedures. Please visit www.recyc-frigo.com for an appointment for home collection.
For further information regarding this topic or to request a free estimate, please call Public Works, at 514-369-8280 (Monday to Thursday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and on Fridays from 7:00 AM to 2:45 PM) or the Town Hall, at 514-369-8200 (Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM).
