Aqueduct repairs start throughout Town on week of July 26th
Hampstead receives $814,500 from federal and provincial governments
A three-part series of rehabilitation repairs to aqueduct mains will soon start throughout the Town. Hampstead recently received $814,500 from the federal and provincial governments to help fix underground pipes. The federal-provincial funding comes from the PRECO agreement, the potable water and wastewater pipe renewal program.
Phase I of the rehabilitation repairs will start the week of July 26, 2010 and will affect the following streets:
Ferncroft (between Netherwood and Cleve)
Belsize (between Holly and Eton Crescent)
Applewood (between Netherwood and Applewood Crescent)
Aldred Place (between Aldred Crescent and 50 Aldred Place)
Harrow (between 61 Harrow and 21 Harrow)
All affected households will receive a 48 hour notice from Aqua Rehab before repairs start and, after work is completed, grounds will be restored to its original state.
Please note that, in order to complete these repairs, a temporary drinking water network will be installed to minimise impacts on residents’ everyday activities and to guarantee a continual supply of drinking water. Water quality will be closely monitored.

Last year, both governments agreed to reserve $936 million from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for Quebec, which includes $350 million for PRECO for the whole province. D’Arcy McGee MNA, Lawrence Bergman, said that the plan is to approve projects quickly “so that the schedule work can be completed by March 2011.”
“Hampstead has been very active in seeking grant money for badly needed infrastructure work. This latest grant will be used for relining or replacing several water mains, which are in bad shape. By the end of 2011, we hope to have rehabilitated almost all of our worst water mains. Most of the funding will have come from grants like this one. We very much appreciate the funding from the provincial and federal governments,” said Mayor Bill Steinberg.
