The Town’s rollout recycling bins were delivered in 2009 with an information card, which can be viewed here, with instructions on how and where to place the container for collection. The card also lists what materials can be recycled. Please read carefully and keep for future reference.
Reasons why your 240 L bin might not have been picked up
- You took out your old 64 L bin instead of the new 240 L bin. 64 L bins are no longer picked up.
- Your bin was not out on the streetside before 7:00 a.m. on collection day (Tuesdays).
- Your bin was not placed properly on the streetside with wheels facing your house.
- Your bin was placed too far from the street. Your bin must be placed no further than 6 feet from the street.
- You had recycling items outside or on top of your bin. Cardboards must be cut and inserted inside the bin.
- You had too many recycling items in your bin. Remaining recycling items will be picked up with the next scheduled pick-up.
What to do with the old 64 litre blue bin
The automated system cannot deal with the old 64 litre blue boxes and, therefore, their use becomes obsolete. Residents can bring their old recycling bin/s to Hampstead’s Public Works garage at 10 Cleve Road from Monday to Thursday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Where to store the new 240 litre bin
The new bin should be stored in the garage, if possible, or outside beside your home or on your driveway near the garage door.
How to place your recycling bin for pick-up
Your bin must be placed in your driveway near the sidewalk. The recycling truck cannot pick up if there are cars in the street in front of the bin.
How to maintain your 240 litre bin in good working condition
In order to keep your new recycling bin looking good and smelling pleasant, we recommend washing it periodically, especially the inside, with regular detergent and warm water. Spreading baking soda on the inside bottom of the bin will keep unpleasant odours away.
