The Town has recently implemented a new green collection on Fridays. Accepted green waste includes: outdoor spring cleaning residues and other landscaping work waste, tillage residues, waste from gardens or fruit trees, small branches (not exceeding 1m in length and 5cm in diameter) grouped together with fibre string, cut grass/weeds as well as leaves.
Food waste and other household waste are presently not being collected in Hampstead. The Town is currently considering several options to collect household organic matter. In the meantime, the Town encourages residents to collect food waste and other organic household waste and store it in a proper compost collector to create their own compost for personal usage.
Please note that free compost is distributed to residents twice a year: in the spring and fall. This compost is made out of the green waste collected with the green waste collections organized throughout the island. In 2010, compost will be distributed in Hampstead at the Public Works garage (10 Cleve Rd.) on Sunday, May 9 and in October/November (TBA).
