Housefather to Host Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting

Mount Royal Member of Parliament Anthony Housefather will be hosting a consultation meeting ahead of the Liberal government’s inaugural budget. The meeting will take place this Thursday, January 7th, at 7pm at the Irving L. Adessky Community Centre (Hampstead Park), 30 Lyncroft Road, Hampstead.

“As promised during the election campaign, I want to hold regular public meetings throughout the Mount Royal riding”, said Housefather. “I am pleased that, as part of the new Liberal Government’s commitment to openness and transparency, our Finance Minister, Bill Morneau (Toronto Centre, ON), has shown a strong interest in receiving feedback from all Canadians. Our local pre-budget consultation in Mount Royal will allow me to solicit constituents’ opinions and relay the priorities for our riding to the minister.

Having worked on 10 budgets as a city mayor and 11 others as a town or borough councillor, I understand that there are very limited resources. So, I want to stress that the purpose of the meeting is to highlight budgetary priorities from amounts already provided for in the Liberal platform. For example, I’m interested in people’s feedback on whether the Cavendish extension or improvements to the STM should be a priority within the monies earmarked for infrastructure, or whether day centres are amongst the priorities for health care.”

The meeting on January 7th will begin with a presentation by Housefather, followed by a question and comment period.  Public participation is encouraged but, as space is limited, members of the public who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP to
