The Montreal police is urging senior residents to stay informed, remain vigilant, and protect themselves against fraud due to an increase in scams. The elderly are being targeted in the area and extorted for large sums through what’s known as grandparent fraud. Fraudsters often use this technique to phone their victims and pretend to be a relative.

Please remember to never give personal or financial information over the phone or by email. If someone contacts you asking for money or information, take the time to investigate before taking any action. Stay safe from fraud by regularly monitoring financial accounts, as well as credit reports.

If you think you may have been a victim, report it to the SPVM.
