Fraudsters often impersonate financial institutions, government agencies, police services or even family members in distress to obtain personal or banking information.<\/p><p><strong>When in doubt, say no. Hang up. Take time to verify.<\/strong><\/p><p>Legitimate organizations will never pressure you to share passwords, access codes or make urgent payments.<\/p><p>If you receive a suspicious call, inform the caller that you will call back, then dial the official number of the organization yourself (using its official website or the number on your bank card). Never return a call using a number provided by the caller.<\/p><p>Do not click on unknown links, never share verification codes sent by text message, and secure your accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.<\/p><p>If you believe you have been targeted or victimized, report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and contact your financial institution immediately.
