When the Blue Bonnets land was transferred, Ville de Montréal signed an agreement with the Québec government to transfer the 46 hectares of the Hippodrome-Blue Bonnets to the municipality for a residential development project. This agreement made the long-discussed extension of Cavendish, a project over six decades in the making, mandatory to alleviate congestion on the Décarie Expressway.
In 2022, it appeared that Montréal was preparing to move forward with the extension, as the Plante administration submitted a project notice to the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE). Although this notice is still posted on the Québec Ministry of the Environment’s website, the necessary environmental impact studies have not been commissioned.
The City’s communications office confirmed that the project is being reassessed due to changing mobility needs.
In response, MNA Elisabeth Prass sponsored a petition urging the CAQ government to require Ville de Montréal to honour the 2017 agreement, which stipulates that the Cavendish extension is crucial to the development of the Blue Bonnets land.
