Review of the Property Assessment Roll
To request an administrative review of your property’s assessment, you must complete the official form available at montreal.ca/evaluation-fonciere. The completed form must be submitted no later than April 30 of the first year in which a new assessment roll is filed. The municipal assessor will respond to your request in writing. If a disagreement persists between the parties, recourse may be sought before the Tribunal administratif du Québec. This process is also subject to official forms, fees, and deadlines.
You may also request an administrative review following a change to your property’s assessment (e.g., due to significant modifications to a building). Such requests must be submitted within 60 days of the issuance of the notice of modification.
Please note that even if an assessment review is underway, the tax bill must be paid in full as originally issued. Failure to pay will result in interest charges calculated based on applicable due dates. However, if a reduction in the assessment is granted, the City is legally obligated to refund the overpaid amount, including interest, on any excess payments.
