Collections
General Information
Garbage collection happens each Tuesday as of 7:00 AM.
Bins can be taken out between 6:00 PM the night before collection (by-law 705) and 7:00 AM on collection day to ensure collection. You may use any garbage bag inside the bin.
Bins must weigh no more than 100 lbs. (45 kg).
Place your completely closed bin, wheels facing your house, at no more than 6 feet (2 meters) from the street, which means directly next to the sidewalk, ensuring no parked cars block access to your bin from the street.
Any excess garbage must be packed in yellow Town-approved garbage bags and placed by the bin. Only use these bags for excess garbage.
Yellow Town-approved bags (with Hampstead logo) are available for purchase on My.Hampstead for $10/package of 10 bags, taxes included.
Do not take out Town-approved yellow garbage bags before 5:30 AM on collection day to prevent potential vermin problems.
Only waste placed in black Town-approved bins without recyclable waste and Town-approved yellow bags will be picked up.
A New Era for Recycling Collection in Hampstead!
As of January 1, 2025, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) has taken over responsibility for managing the recycling collection (blue bin) across all municipalities, including Hampstead.
Recycling placed in the Town-provided blue bins is collected every Wednesday, starting promptly at 7:00 A.M.
👉 Important: Starting April 25, 2025, all recyclable materials must be placed inside the blue bin. Flattened cardboard boxes left outside the bin will not be collected.
This modernization of the selective collection system aims to:
âś… Enhance the sorting of recyclable materials.
âś… Significantly increase recycling rates.
âś… Reduce contamination in recyclables.
Simplify your recycling habits!
ÉEQ’s Bac Impact program educates and raises awareness about the importance of proper sorting at the source. A single, standardized list of accepted materials now applies across Quebec, eliminating confusion and ensuring consistency. This unified approach facilitates better consolidation of recyclables, enabling the development of local markets to repurpose these materials.
Together, let’s create a more sustainable future!
