Road infrastructure management and local mobility

The Town of Hampstead’s road network is entirely municipal. The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and monitoring these infrastructure to ensure safety, traffic flow, and overall quality of life.
Road and mobility management follow a planned and preventive approach aimed at maintaining infrastructure integrity and responding promptly to identify issues.

Municipal responsibility

The Public Works Department is responsible for:

  • Routine maintenance of streets and sidewalks.
  • Repairing roadway deterioration (potholes, settlements, cracking).
  • Maintaining road signage and pavement markings.
  • Managing traffic disruptions and municipal worksites.

Road conditions and maintenance

The Town conducts regular inspections of its road network to identify maintenance needs and plan corrective work. Interventions may include resurfacing, localized repairs, sidewalk rehabilitation, or drainage improvements.

Work is prioritized based on infrastructure condition, safety considerations, and available resources.

Reporting an issue

Residents are encouraged to report issues observed on public roads, including:

  • Potholes.
  • Pavement settlement.
  • Traffic obstructions.
  • Defective signage.
  • Street lighting issues.

Reports can be submitted through the online request service or by contacting Public Works. Providing photos can help expedite response times.

Traffic Disruptions and Works

Municipal or private construction projects may temporarily affect traffic circulation. The Town publishes relevant information to inform residents of anticipated impacts and mitigation measures.

Traffic disruption notices are posted on the municipal website and, when necessary, distributed through the alert system.
