2026 Budget Adjustment and Municipal Taxes
Following the issuance of the 2026 property tax bills, the Town identified an administrative error affecting the budget calculation. A notice of motion was tabled at last night’s Council meeting to enable the adoption of the necessary amendments to the applicable by law.
The Mayor reiterated that this matter is being addressed with the utmost seriousness, that corrective measures will be implemented promptly, and that transparency toward residents remains a central principle guiding municipal action.
In this context, the current budget adjustment will have an impact on municipal taxes. Residents are nevertheless asked to pay their first instalment by the February 23 due date, based on the tax bill already issued. Property owners who have already paid their tax bill in full will automatically receive a refund corresponding to the adjustment once it is applied. A revised tax bill will be issued and sent to property owners as soon as possible.
It is also important to note that certain variations reflected on the tax bill are primarily the result of the implementation of the 2026 to 2028 property assessment roll, prepared and filed by the Ville de Montréal in accordance with the applicable legislative framework. The Town of Hampstead does not determine property assessments. Residents who wish to contest their assessment may do so directly online with the appropriate authority.
